The Sim
The USS Defiant is a Kelvin-Timeline Constitution class sim, aiming to take influence from Strange New Worlds, Deep Space 9, and the broader Trek canon, aiming to use the freedom of the altered timeline and the knowledge of the extended canon to tell new and engaging Star Trek stories! Fans of Trek new and old are welcome! The year is 2266. For several years, the Alpha and Beta Quadrants have been in an uncomfortable state of ease. Peace has settled between the major powers, allowing the United Federation of Planets an extended time of exploration.
The Constitution-Class USS Defiant, NCC-1764 has been assigned to the unexplored region known as the Carinae Traverse. Defiant is assigned to explore the regions of space around the fledgeling Starbase Arcadia on the fringes of the expansive Carina Nebula and the space hidden behind it. Defiant soon finds that in the region of space there are many secrets awaiting uncovering.

Star Trek: Defiant is a 18+ Roleplaying Sim set within the Kelvin Timeline. The USS Defiant, a Constitution Class Vessel, is assigned to the distant Lana'i System on the fringes of Federation Space. Home to a Federation Outpost, the partly-constructed Starbase Arcadia, and countless secrets, Defiant have more than enough work cut out for them.
Star Trek: Defiant intentionally skirts the line between the Kelvin-Timeline and Discovery/TOS era, intended to be a home to fans of each. Due to the limited amount of information in this era, our approach to canon will be loose for creative purposes. The events of the Kelvin Timeline trilogy are all canonical, as well as a slightly altered version of Discovery Seasons 1 and 2. Defiant herself is intended to be a bit of an amalgamation between the Kelvin timeline designs and the Discovery Enterprise design. Locations seen in each may exist aboard Defiant to some extent. As such, the Defiant will likely be visually represented as the craft from either timeline. A good approximating image could be the one created by Marksman104 here:

or the USS Challenger by Madman here:

The intent of this is to create a welcoming environment for fans of either property and to provide enough context to build on. The Kelvin Timeline provides a good deal of freedom in terms of storytelling, due to the accelerated timeline. Therefore, efforts will be made to allow players to play the race they desire, even if First Contact may have taken place a bit later in the timeline. Defiant canon is not intended to be "true", though we will respect established events. It is intended to create a welcoming environment for players to tell compelling stories or simply escape to another world for a while.
Canon Considerations:
Canon will be treated loosely. Player characters from races that feature later in the franchise will be permitted as long as enough of a justification can be made. Encounters with such later races could be possible from time to time as well.
Technology will skew advanced, displaying any and all technologies available in the series or movies. Things like Transwarp Beaming will be handled on a case by case basis. For example, that beaming could easily introduce new players mid-mission but could get out of hand if too easily available during story sequences.
In Game Considerations:
Defiant will essentially have 3 "levels" of story.
The first is the day to day ship operations. This will be where your character's primary interactions will take place. Solo and joint posts can make use of larger story settings if need be, but do not need to be tied to any ongoing stories. This will allow greater freedom in posting. This also means you won't be trapped without any posts while your character is planet side for a few weeks.
Second is the Episodic level. This will be the story posts related to a given mission. Again, they will operate in their own closed state, only relying on other mission posts within the Episode. This will sometimes involve a handful of characters and will sometimes be a whole ship scene.
The third level will be Seasonal stories. These are the biggest overarching plot threads and generally will become most relevant at the end of a season arc. Side posts can react to any previously concluded Episodes or seasonal developments at will, though establishing any new details requires command approval.
